Software-Defined Networking (SDN) has emerged as a paradigm shift in network architecture, decoupling control and data planes to enhance flexibility, scalability, and programmability. Architectural decision-making in SDN plays a crucial role in network performance, security, and resource optimization. This paper explores various architectural considerations, including centralized versus distributed control, controller placement, network virtualization, and security frameworks. A detailed methodology is presented for assessing architectural decisions based on performance metrics and case studies. The results highlight key trade-offs and provide recommendations for optimizing SDN implementations.
